New site? Maybe some day.
Some people like westerns, some like kung-fu flicks, but I always loved my adventure movies rooted in fantasy. Anyone else a fan of movies like the Magic Sword, Sword and the Sorceror, Krull, the Steve Reeves 'Hercules' films, Beastmaster, Dragonslayer (even though that awful dork from Ghostbusters 2 makes me gag,) the Deathstalker series, etc? I have always had a soft spot for Hercules in the Haunted World because of how surreal it is, and for the Indonesian movie the Devils Sword for its utter cheese and ridiculousness. Anyone else? |
I was asking if anyone else was familiar with the movies, not trying to introduce anyone to something new, so obviously it would by default be old news. Not to mention the films are from the 60s. TRY DOING IT RIGHT NEXT TIME BRO |
lol. the old news trick still works. |
I figured I could count on andrew for Sinbad COME ON BRO |
WHAT ONES DO YOU WANT ME TO LIST AGAIN BRO |
go listen to ace of base faggot |
Ross, do you like movies about gladiators? |
Beastmaster rules and no one has mentioned Conan the Barbarian , Conan the Destroyer, or Red Sonja yet. |
That's because those were made in the 80s and are too new. |
I didnt mention them, or Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans, because they are so well known, but theyre all good movies of course. |
yeah the sinbad movies are dope |
yeah the sinbad movies are dope |
Im telling you, watch the Hammer film 'Hercules in the Haunted World.' other than the low production values, youll love it. |
errrr it's actually not Hammer just Mario Bava. |
That's because those were made in the 80s and are too new. |
So were a lot of the movies already mentioned. |
errrr it's actually not Hammer just Mario Bava. |
I was just thinking it was Hammer because my nigga Christopher Lee was in it. |
i haven't seen Krull in so long, i used to love that as a kid. |
same with Beastmaster. did one of the Beastmasters have cloaked villians that turned to goo when they were killed? or did i imagine that? |
The Ice Pirates, Conquest, and Yor or GTFO |
Also on a semi-related note, has anyone ever seen that Tim Robbins movie Erik the Viking? I didnt even know it existed until recently, but it's actually really well done, even if the humor is forced and cheesy as hell. |
I doubt Ross actually likes eagles (the bird) |
The Ice Pirates and Yor are not even the same genre bro. |
Also on a semi-related note, has anyone ever seen that Tim Robbins movie Erik the Viking? I didnt even know it existed until recently, but it's actually really well done, even if the humor is forced and cheesy as hell. |
It's on Netflix.
BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS. |
when i was in 8th grade this kid i used to hang out with showed me Erik the Viking and Army of Darkness one time. i can't remember a thing about Erik the Viking. |

hahaha my co-worker has a Battle Beyond the Stars movie poster in his cube. |
I'm sorry, I FORGOT ABOUT SWORDS.
cheesy sci-fi and fantasy movies are basically the same to me. I don't really separate the two. |
says 'old news' ....... doesnt even understand topic. |
gets 'annoyed' ..... doesn't respond to texts. |

lol |
All your texts ever are are how much better the things you like are than the things I like, so I guess I dont really know what you expect me to say. |
Aril does tend to think he is above the law and people like he's some sort of God. |
Yea okay bud. Like we ever exchange serious texts. Let me call the kettle black or at least make a thread with every ridiculous text I've gotten over the past 4 months. |
I always considered you a friend and had your back when people had bad things to say, but frankly all you seem to do is try to intentionally piss off people who are supposed to be your friends. Eventually that shit just gets kind of old, that's all. It's not that big of a deal, I just dont understand it I guess. |
anyway, back to the topic at hand. On a semi-related note, Im watching the Killing of Satan. It's more of a weird adventure / splatter movie than anything else but I love how everyone in the movie shoots lasers out of their fingers. |
Yea, because rttp people whom I've met 2 times in my life are friends. |
haha oh OK I didnt realize it was like that. Good to know. |
Eventually that shit just gets kind of old, that's all. |
Did Aril just become old news?
Not directed at you. But be my guest if you want to take it personally bro. BACK ON TOPIC ABOUT SWORD AND SANDAL MOVIES |
Yea, because rttp people whom I've met 2 times in my life are friends. |
:(...... ouch
homo..................... |
What? Am I the only one that thinks "friends" are something that exists outside of the internet and phones? give me a fucking break. |
stop posting under that name you fucking dingus...
I need to copywrite that ish so I can sue niggaz. |
only Tim Curry as Darkness is real
(even tho the movie kinda stinks) |
I like Aril but sometimes I don't like Aril. |
Tim Curry as Darkness was actually one of the main things I DIDNT like about Legend. Well not so muc tIm Currys acting as just those dumbass horns they gave him. |

create a login about it and do a ritual :( |
LOL .
BACK ON TOPIC PLZ. ROSS AND I ARE GOING TO FIGHT WITH SWORDS AND SANDALS AND SETTLE THIS LIKE MEN. |
The word Settle just reminded me of that game The Settlers. I remember it being good but it's been a while. I wonder if I still have that shiz. |
That reminds me of settlers in Civilization. Hate that -1 population penalty. |
Civilizaton IV was so good. HUGE game, especially wit all the expansions. |
Ugh, so much unintentional mixage of decades!
I love 80's style Sword and Sorcery fantasy, but speaking strictly of 50's/60's Sword and Sandal, I enjoy a lot of what I've seen. I think Steve Reeves, Mark Forrest, and Richard Harrison are the most memorable of the muscle-men leads. I can't say ANY of these flicks escape the basic narrative form, but there's still a lot of fun Technicolor nonsense worth exploring.
Hercules
The Giant of Marathon
Two Gladiators
Giants of Rome
Hercules: Prisoner of Evil
Mole Men Against the Son of Hercules
Hercules Against the Moon Men
Hercules in the Haunted World
Knives of the Avenger (another Bava, no fantasy elements but a fine little period/action flick nonetheless)
Goliath and the Vampires
Rome Against Rome (aka War of the Zombies)
Son of Samson
The Last of the Vikings
Mill Creek's Warriors 50-film set is a good way to get a bunch of these on the cheap, though there are some real clunkers in the set and a few of the titles have received better looking releases (from Something Weird and Retromedia mainly).
Yea I have a double-feature of Goliath and the Vampires and Goliath ad the Sins of Babylong that Something weird released that actually looks pretty good for what it is. Im a big fan of Reg Park as Hercules for some reason, even though it was short lived. Against the Moon Men is SO ridiculouis. |
ugh wtf is up with all these typos today? Hah |
wow, who knew swords and sandals could provoke such ire. i think Ross and Jim should duke it out with LARP weapons. |
If Andrew lets me use his LARP gear, Im down. |
My vagina is sandy and Cher is still a loser. |
Yea I cant stand that video she did where she is in a bikini dancing on that aircraft carrier. Wait... What? |
Magic Journey of Sinbad FTW, especially considering it's got nothing at all to do with Sinbad and is actually based on Russo-mythoshit. Also Frances Ford Coppola got his start doing the de-Russification for American audiences (hence the Sinbad plot). MST3K version for bonus points.
Related: Sword and the Dragon (same production company, also available with Mike-and-bots commentary). |
lol @ Magic Journey of Sinbad.
I need to buy all of these damn movies. Do they have them on DVD? They must. |
grab the Warriors collection that alex suggested. It has a lot of crap but some good uns and its cheap. Also LOL @ the price on amazon www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000F9SUT4/ref=redir_mdp_mobile |
Reg Park isn't bad, but he doesn't have as much charisma as some of the other stars of Peplum.
He does seem very sincere though!
Also LOL @ the price on amazon www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000F9SUT4/ref=redir_mdp_mobile |
Well, it does include The White Warrior! |
Steve Reeves does one thousand, four hundred and eighty eight push ups a day every day. |
big fan of all old sword and sorcery shit. just picked up a bunch of old robert e howard anthologies from the 60's all boris and frezetta covers!!! loved the movie dragon slayer. old clash of the titans and shit. my girl picked up the frank frezetta card set few years back at this flea market in cumberland RI. love how he draws his women..... |
You can stream a few on Netflix... Though I think the print of Hercules in the Haunted World they offer is cut by a few minutes, try the disc from Fantoma.
Duel of the Titans
David and Goliath (1961)
Hercules Against the Mongols
Ulysses
My Son, The Hero (this one kind of bored me though) |
Oh yeah, and they have the fantastic 1983 Neo-Peplum Hercules with Lou Ferrigno. |
Ugh, so much unintentional mixage of decades!
Best purchase ever made. these movies got me through getting laid off, not getting laid, getting swine flu and losing my apartment. plus costs like $12 on ebay. |
realize this is not sword sandal but its awesome anyways |
Fuck yeah, Enzo Castellari is the man and then some, and the Bronx Warriors films are among his finest achievements. |
also semi-related, I love Hercules: the Legendary Journeys. KEVIN SORBO 2012 |
WE ORDER YOU TO LEAVE THE BRONX |
