Lord of the rings disappointed me, Jackson likes CGI too much
good news is that when I was at the horror convention for rock and shock the dude that played the troll and the demon from the two hellboy films said del toro is going to work immediately on "at the mountains of madness" |

watch the "making of" documentaries. fuck anyone who says anything negative about the production in those movies. |

Ya, a cave troll in a rubber suit and midget halflings woulda been way better, khed.

I loved the Lotr movies and am partial to real-props as well, but I thought the CGI was excellent for the most part.
My only real complaints are that sometimes gollum looked too fake, the Oliphants were ok (but the legolas scene where he destroyed one was a joke), and some of the cgi in general looked Meh. But overall, they nailed Hobbiton and Minas Tirith, Helms Deep, etc. Everything looked great. Also, keep in mind the CGI used in the movies is 10 years old now. |

And the trolls.
I am quite offended that they made my brethren look like that. That was the major design flaw that stood out to me. I pictured trolls to look a lot different when I was a wee lad growing up and reading the books.
Perhaps the closest rendition t what a troll should look like is from the greatest computer game ever made, Age of Wonders: |
