I think 1984 covered what that book probably covers

nations use war to keep citizens in perpetual poverty and ignorance.

all the excess capital is drowned in spending it on warships and military operations rather than on education and science.

War is used to create poverty and poverty creates ignorance which leads to war again, endless cycle.

However much I love military history and warrior cultures, guns, swords, survival...I am of the sound opinion that without all of the last 30 or so wars we would be immortal and living in floating moving cities above fertile untouched lands below.

But you don't have to take my word for it!
