New site? Maybe some day.

There are some CDs that are viking funeral CDs for me. After you hear them, you think, "Goddamnit, everything else is just noise in comparison... burn the world, and I will cuddle with this CD for awhile."
They really raise the fucking bar and it pushes me toward a clearer vision of why I like being alive. (Unlike most people, I like being alive.)
Here's a few:
* Any of the Beethoven symphonies
* Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
* The Doors - S/T
* King Crimson - Red
* Slayer - Reign in Blood
* Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear
...everything else pales. |
Mercyful Fate - Don't Break the Oath |
I think oath is one of those CDs that I seriously could listen to forever without listening to anything else. There was honestly a period for about 2 months where that was honestly the only cd I listened to. |
Megadeth - "Rust in Peace" is one... atleast this album turns me off of other 'Deth albums. when someone mentions Megadeth... all i can think about is Rust in Peace. its a masterpiece. i would even go as far as saying to blows any of the older Metallica releases away. as a whole it blows Reign in Blood away. It destroys Darkness Descends... i cant really think of another HUGE thrash metal album that can touch it. |
Just a few off the top of my head:
Sodom "In the Sign of Evil" - One of those albums I don't listen to very often but whenever I do, I wonder why I bother listening to anything else. For me this album epitomizes the term "Black Metal" better than almost any other black metal record I can think of or any other black metal record anyone might recommend to me.
Death "Symbolic" - Whenever I listen to this, I am always in awe of the beauty and flawlessness of every song on the fucking CD.
Morbid Angel "Blessed are the Sick" - Quite possibly the best death metal album ever recorded, to my ears.
Bolt Thrower "Realm of Chaos" - Quite possibly the heaviest death metal album ever recorded, to my ears. I tuned my guitar down to A because of this album. |
Mercyful Fate - Don't Break the Oath |
I should be shot for forgetting to put this and also "Them" by King Diamond on my list. |
Cult of Luna - Somewhere Along the Highway or Eternal Kingdom
Breach - Kollapse
Iron Maiden - any album pre Janick Gers
Death - Individual Thought Patterns or Symbolic
Coldplay - Rush of Blood to the Head (probably my favorite album I've ever heard of any genre ever)
Hannah Montana-Best of Both Worlds |
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Alice in Chains - Dirt
Type O Negative - October Rust
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Burzum - all, but especially Det Som Engang Var
Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse |
I need music like I need food. It's total nourishment. I shudder to think what life would be like without it. |
The following albums hold some great significance for me; whether having listened to them trekking up the side of a mountain, on Psilocybin, or both.
Skepticism - All
Burzum - Det.., Hvis.., and Filosofem
Neurosis - A Sun That Never Sets
ISIS - Celestial, Oceanic
Autechre - tri repetae, confield
Opeth - First 5 albums
Shape of Despair - Shade of..., Illusions Play
Thergothon - Stream from the Heavens
Meshuggah - All
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works: Volume's 1 and 2
Halo Manash - Language of Red Goats
...Could keep naming but won't

Take drugs and listen to Catch 33. The end. |
Death "Symbolic" - Whenever I listen to this, I am always in awe of the beauty and flawlessness of every song on the fucking CD.
This. |
Take drugs and listen to Catch 33. The end. |
I must say I HATE that album. Although, I've never listened to it inebriated.
IMO, Meshuggah's only bad record. |
what about nothing? that album was so boring. |
Take drugs and listen to Catch 33. The end. |
Ate a bag of Mushrooms and listened to Catch 33. My only regret is that I didn't have any DMT instead.
Oh, and everything from Chaosphere onwards = Meshuggah's darkest material. |
[QUOTE="RustyPS:884118]Meshuggah's only bad record. |
umm only...? |
i like everything from chaosphere backwards. the new one is pretty good too. |
Meshuggah is one of the only consistent bands in metal. |
I liked Nothing, not great, but solid. |
yes nothing isnt great but when faced with losing everything i suppose when you start with nothing it is solid |
i'm getting for this shit motherfucker, im on fyyyyyyyyyyah |
SO HAWT YA CAN'T TOUCH IT |
I mean you can if you really wanted but you'll need an icy pac afterwards cause that shit is hawt hawt haaaaaaaaaaaawt |
I guess a lot of Progressive/Sludge/Doom Metal albums from Jesu, Cult of Luna and Isis are up there with this feeling. I would also throw Ulver's Shadow of The Sun in this list.
Zao's Liberate Te Ex Infernis is a very important album to me. The Neurosis influenced sludgy-ness to it is the kind of Metalcore that only Zao has been able to offer me. |
Liberate Te Ex Infernis, is my favorite Zao record.
But I don't believe it is an everything else is shit cd. |
Well, as far as the time period it came out in the realm of Metalcore it is. Not too many bands that I know of were doing what they were doing. |
Death - The Sound of Perseverance (death's most "passionate" record)
All Out War - Condemned to Suffer (the meanest apocalyptic thrash/death/hardcore record)
Cryptopsy - None So Vile (every riff memorable while still bludgeoning)
as far as Meshuggah goes - Destroy.Erase.Improve FTW
Suffocation - Pierced From Within (perfect balance of technicality with brutality)
Sleep's Holy Mountain (i love sabbath, but this album just strikes a chord with me, puts me in a good mood as soon as i hear the first notes) |
* Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
* Slayer - Reign in Blood

Megadeth - "Rust in Peace" is one... |
