The lack of news coverage on this great man's death is disgusting to put it mildly. I've had to sit thru months of crap about a dead fake blonde with fake tits, yet I watched MSNBC for an hour and a half this morning and never heard a word about Kurt Vonnegut. Where are the hour-long specials celebrating his work and life? Oh wait, he was an intellectual who actually did something with his life and therefore isn't as interesting to the media or american public as someone with alot of money who's had plastic surgery. Apparently Imus is more worthy of our attention...why don't we just start wearing helmets and water wings now people? Let's get it over with. |

One of those occasions HTL makes a great point. I had no idea until Jon told me just now. Too bad. |
|
harrison bergeron was an excellent story |
|
Harrison Bergeron is one of his most powerful and important stories these days |

you're a fucking idiot if you think Vonnegut would want his death to be turned into a media crapstorm. Just let the dead guy chill. |

I'm serious, I don't think I've read anything that was written since the 1920s I really dislike modern literature.
HP Lovecraft is the most recent author I enjoy even he's a bit too current for my tastes, I prefer literature from the romantic era. I'm addicted to ancient texts though, give me the Iliad or the Odyssey, or the sagas of the Norsemen over any of the other stuff that's being pumped out now. |
|
I blame it on public schools, they don't introduce you too enough literature, there are a few current authors I dig, but it's hard to get into a lot of them when I don't get recommended them. Usually I stumble upon the authors I read through fate, I guess fate has kept me ignorant of this man's works.
what's his best? |

No one's death should be a media crapstorm, the point was more that Vonnegut's life and death deserve more attention than fake tits and stupid D.J.s. |

His son taught at my high school, and he was a damn good teacher. Said I'd like his dad's stuff, and I did. Read everything I could get my hands on, and I read Slaughterhouse Five a couple of times a year.
Such depressing news. |
|
I'm about to crack Slaughterhouse Five as soon as I'm done with the book I'm reading right now. |
|
My top 5 K.V. books...
Welcome to the Monkey House
Cat's Cradle
The Sirens of Titan
Slaughterhouse Five
and A Man Without a Country
Rest in Peace, your wit & wisdom will be missed. |

Even if I do, you'll still be italian. |
|
I'd trade any of you for Vonnegut.
I also said the same thing about Eddie Guerrero... and I still meant it. |
