New site? Maybe some day.
aka getting the spring and screw on the pickup? |
i know i need the springs in to do it right but im about to say f them and do it without it |
it will be a mess without the springs. Make sure you keep them. They keep tension on the screws which hold the pup in place. you can rest the pup as far down as you can. Push the spring in, and hold it with tweezers, and then move it around until you can get the screw in it. thats how I normally do it. |
and there may be an eisier way than how I do it too... thats just how I have managed to get by. |
now the otherone....
these things are a bitch. |
second i now to wireem up |
Are you adding EMGs to this guitar?
EMGs are a pain because the springs that come with them are to big.
your best bet is to use the old springs that were on the stock pickups, and if that doesn't work, cutting one or two of the coils off the spring. |
thats what i figured out...
its working now...
but when i turn my tone knob up all the way it shuts off i will figure that out tomorrow though |
i also forgot to add the after burner that came with the kit....
oh well if i really want to add it i will all it later. |
Oh ya buddy!!
Add that fucker and lemme know!!
hahaha I ve been curious.
Ya those springs can be a pain, but I dont have a problem witht them anymore, in my golden years. |
ya?
Ive been pondering trying it, but I dont neccessarily need a hotter sound, and I assume thats what its for? |
thanks for your help guys...
i may add that tomorrow its 11 and i don't know about taking this thing apart again. |
if ya want, i got a guitar that i need to put new pickups in. |
tomorrow i am,
putting the pickups i took out in my pld guitar
finding out why the tone knob shuts the guitar off when turned all the way up
putting the after burner in this guitar to see how it works...
i am sick of the solder feums.... making me sick |
i have to figure out how to make 1 wire turn into 3, thats why i havent done mine yet. |

Yea, it gives you a tiny gain boost, but it sounds very thin. |
ergghhh i'm stuck i had them in then read that i couldn't use the coil push switch with the 85 so i took all the pots out and now i'm stuck. |
i'm trying to do two volumes and one tone. |
Stuck with what? Shitty soldering skills, lack of knowledge on where the wires go? Where are you stuck, I'll give you a hand. |
well i follow the diagram on the EMG site perfectly and nothing works it sucks.
so i try to start from scratch and it still doesn't work. maybe it is lack of knowledge where the wires go. i'm sure it is right though cause i used to do this type of stuff all the time. |
i'll try and post a picture of where i am at when i get a hold of a camera to see if a visual can help. |
yeah it almost sound like you got a wire or two on something the wrong way and it is being overlooked. When you get frustrated it is even harder to spot something like this. |
i find that in situations like this, things tend to work properly after i smash them off the wall. |
hhahaha i've came so close to doing that. |
almost like nate from pow/the_network |
this really doesn't help i don't think i'll post more in a few i'm using the pots included in the kit right now since i read that you can't use the 500k ohm ones with them |
i'm thinking about disconnecting everything again and starting fresh |
the green wire is the tone knob
the red is the bridge volume and the blue goes to the neck. |
definately some cold solder joints.
Just take it to a guitar tech, they will do it for like 20 bucks.
And why would you want two volumes and a tone? |
oh i know there are cold solder joints and shit it sucks....
two volume knobs cause thats what i had before and i kinda liked it... is that a good idea? or should i just go with the one knob and tone? |
it sucks cause i wired it "right" before but anytime i would turn the tone knob up all the way it would short out the signal so i read on the emg site that i couldn't use a coil tap and just took it apart and now im stuck. |
You can have two volumes and a tone, but every pot you add cuts into your potential gain. I would go with one volume and tone if I were you (if you even use the tone).
I'm a fan of having no volume and tone pots and only having a killswitch. |
i'll give that one a try to see if i like it.
thanks for your input. |
i figured out what was wrong the pickup selector i was using was the wrong resistance its working now and killer... thanks for all of your help |
