God's Temple Of Family Deliverance/Unholy Mountian Split
Sound Supply 001
God's Temple Of Family Deliverance - Better Blades
Unholy Mountian - Thee Black Wizards Awaken At Dawn (aka the lord
beasley never sleeps)
This HEAVY lp from two houston bands is starting things off right for
Sound Supply Records. Each band contributes one epic song to fill
their respective side of this thick black vinyl. God's Temple Of
Family Deliverance (GTOFD) sludges through the epic "Better Blades" on
side A. The song starts out with a solid minute of drummer Chris Ryan
slamming the beat into your head. The dual subsonic guitar's of Eric
Faucette and Joey O'Mahoney comes in at a snails pace only to be
challenged by the SLOWER, and LOWER bass growl of Ted Conway. Then
suddenly everything jells together in a glorious moment and you find
yourself banging your head, raising a fist, and wondering why you
don't have a goblet to drink out of. This is epic by defintion and
design. The vocals come in around the three minute mark screamed at
you from across the room, as god's temple churns the bass below. Half
way through the epic and you forget where you are and how long you've
been listening for. GTOFD slips in and out of tempo changes and time
signatures and leaves you banging your head in disbelief.
Unholy mountian is the solo project of Beau Beasley who plays bass in
at least 5 other bands and when he is not doing the bass thing he is
working at the record store. His life is all consumed by grindcore,
powerviolence, noise and bass. The Unholy Mountian is his 1 man all
bass drone mind-fuck. The lowest sinewave slowly fades in and your
speakers are trying to jump out of their boxes. The textures rise and
fall coming from a bass guitar with all 4 strings tuned to low-c. The
noise is definatley unsettling and will try your patience. Let your
mind go and reap the rewards of the entire performance, even if they
are punishing.
Both sides of the record were recorded by Chris Ryan and Eric Faucette
at their studio johnny killed rock and roll, where they have every
tool at their disposal to make this record HEAVY AS FUCK. You will
experience new lows from this black vinyl mastered at 45 r.p.ms for
even more bass and volume than you thought possible. -mike mcaloon
