New site? Maybe some day.

Hey all, I'm having some arthroscopic knee surgery next Friday (5/27). I have a torn meniscus from a soccer game. Depending on how it goes I might be on crutches for a little while. Wish me luck! |
aww, get better soon!
soccer actually IS a brutal game! It's a sacred rite in Brazil! |
VICODINS!!!! Have fun and I hope you feel better! |
Whatever you do ask for morphine. Great shit. |
maybe you'll get to meet half the red sox team in the hospital... at least their star players |
Thanks guys. Haha, yeah Al, I'll keep an eye out. |
I had the same injury I believe and also had arthoscopic surgury. this was 8 years ago. good luck! |
I'm going to have the same surgery in October...it's fucking painful right now. I'm going to France for it though.
Good luck Liz! |
Hmm, looks like all us cool kids tore our menisci. I bet everyone else feels really left out! |
Is that the same thing as cartilage?
I tore that shit in 1982.
i DO feel left out. i'll go give myself a hernia right now, we can eat jello together in the hospital. i want the green kind.
good luck with it though |

Oh goodie gumdrops. I'm in the club.
When I was 9 some lady ran me over while I was on my bicycle.
She must've been able to see into the future and knew what bands I would end up in.
All she did was fuck up my knee though.

So, I guess now it's not so minor. The tear was all the was through my cartilidge, so they had to take out the whole meniscus on the outside of my left knee. Now, my options are, do nothing, and I'll need a total knee replacement in 20 years, or do this major surgery that one doctor at Beth Isreal does, and have them make me a new meniscus.
Either way, I can't run anymore, and I love running...
This blows! |
Shitty, If I was you I would go for the surgery. Would your insurance cover it? |
Yeah, I think the surgery is a much better option so far, I have to meet with the doctor though, and I have to wait for my knee to heal more from my last surgery before I can do that. I'm pretty sure my insurance would cover it, but I have to double check. |
if your insurance says no at first, sometimes the doctor can fill out some paper work saying why you need it and they may change their mind. |
a referral. if you need a referral, be sure to get the referral. insurance companies suck and will do anything not to pay so it's best to have some backup on paper. i've seen patients get denied $20,000.00 dollar surgeries because they didn't have a referral. |
that sounds like a pretty MAJOR knee surgery to me. |

Get the Carticel surgery done. I am having both knees done in the near future (one at a time of course). If there is not enough cartilage left in the knee it is not worth getting done, but if there is enough left your knee will be as good as new. I was actually told my knees will end up healthier than they have ever been. Furthermore, you will be able to take up running again (after the long rehab). Three months of no weight bearing on the joint, with passive motion eight hours a day. Your knee will be as good as new in 18 months.
I am fully for surgery and believe it is nothing to be afraid of. I had neck surgery in 2001, a diskectomy with fusion and hardware. I am getting all the ligaments and tendons cut in my shoulder, tightened and reattached to the bone in several weeks. Surgery is fun and even better when you can be awake for it. Did you get to watch your arthroscopic surgery? It looks so cool to see the inside of your knee. Do it and feel better.
when you say that you can't run anymore, do you mean, never again for the rest of your life? |
No, I wasn't awake for the arthroscopic surgery, they said if i got local anethesia, i'd have to stay in the hospital a couple extra hours, so i took the general. I'm all for surgery, too, adn I really hope that what you say about the running is true. I know my doctor had never done one of those surgerys so he may have been wrong--cause he told me I should never run, either way. Damn Horror, you've had a lot of operations! |

What if Dave from the Grave was chasing you? |
