it's not concrete because we haven't been told that it's concrete. until someone on the show says that that is the case, then it is not definitive, just conjecture.

it doesn't. it just explains why the twins as candidates couldn't harm one another. once Jacob becomes the Protector (and thus ceases being a candidate) we don't know what rules governing him and the opposing force.

i wasn't saying that "using that reveal to explain why smokey and Jacob can't kill each other" is wrong or anything. actually, it's the most logical and likely conclusion. i'm just saying there's room for speculation. we could be assuming too much. the show is chock full of such misdirections.

I think that was the whole point of bringing that up at all, to explain why Jacob and the smoke monster could not directly harm one another...it would be pointless to bring that up otherwise...and it would make sense that the reason the smoke monster couldn't kill Jacob is the same reason the smoke monster can't kill the candidates
