I asked Tom if he spelled his name with a "TURE" for his photo career. He told me it was always Couture and not Coocher, and that although he never corrected me he never understood why I spelled it that way during the 6 years or so that I've known the guy.

I stood there and thought about it for a second and it slowly started flooding in that nobody who's name is pronounced "Coocher" would ever actually spell it like that. In fact, it's probably the dumbest possible spelling of the name I could have possibly came up with. Even if it was originally "Coochachevitz" in the old country, and they changed it at Ellis Island nobody would have come up with "Coocher". What a bonehead.
